A young girl came to me and begged for money, but I ignored her. After some time, I felt hungry and went to a chholey bhature stall, when the same girl came to me again and asked for food. Yet, I ignored her. I gave money to the stall-keeper and was about to leave when suddenly, I heard the same girl screaming “Bhaiya, bhaiya.” I thought she was asking for money, again. I didn’t turn back and kept walking away from the store. She ran up to me and said, “Bhaiya, apka phone (Brother, your phone)”. I had forgotten my phone at the stall.
After this incident, my mind was full of conflicting thoughts, and the whole journey back, I was thinking about the girl. Even though she had an empty stomach, her heart was full of honesty. She could have easily stolen the phone, but she chose not to earn her bread in an unfair way. The honesty of that poor girl restored my faith in humanity.
