The Education Minister
Punjab(India)
Respected Sir/Madam,
Shame and social exclusion continues to grip the mind and bodies of young school going girls of Punjab as they face discreet and sometimes open discrimination whenever they experience periods.
They lack access to quality hygiene counseling and keep sulking.Being a school teacher,I feel our department can do better on this count. This culture of shame must go and the beginning has to be made right from the level of schools. All schools need to be equipped with incinerators for proper disposal of sanitary pads.It is also suggested that the quality of the sanitary pads being distributed in schools may be improved. All students, male or female should be educated on the subject as this will erase social shame and exclusion surrounding menstruation.
I hope you will be able to take steps on the suggestions put forth in this letter.
Thank You,
Kulwinder Kaur
