Looking for an Internship? Here you can know about Internship in Press Council of India

As journalism students, we always struggle to get an internship where we get to learn. All of us have been through this phase and we always want a solution to this never-ending problem. Well, nothing is impossible, in this time when everyone treats interns as their part-time worker, Press Council of India has set a benchmark after conducting its first successful internship (Summer Internship Programme-2019).

I got to know about this internship from the official website of Press Council of India (http://presscouncil.nic.in/) where a download link as Summer Internship Programme-2019 was given and downloading of which gave me all the information about the application process, deadline, etc. Frankly speaking, I did not expect much from the internship as I didn’t have any idea about the internship in Press Council of India, but there was a slight expectation that yes we will learn ethics of media because it is a major part of the Council.

I got a call from the Council for confirmation of our internship approximately a month after the application deadline, and next day got an email in which I had to confirm my presence within 2 days or else that place would be given to the person waiting on Panel. We were a group of 10 interns that were selected among 64 applicants and were selected based on a write-up (topic given by the Council). The internship began on 3rd June and ended on 2nd July.

As I said, this was the 1st internship of its kind in Press Council of India, but still, the internship was wonderful. We got REAL work to do, the people around us were friendly, we got weekends off. As only journalism students were selected, our internship was divided into 3 major sections namely Complaints, Meetings, and Editorial. We used to handle complaints, were taught about journalistic ethics, we even participated in some of the in-house activities, we were given a deep knowledge of the Press Council Act. There were orientation and valediction too, and the valedictory ceremony was the time when we got to interact with Hon’ble Chairman and a member. Other days there was interaction with Secretary too. So, there was always a two-way communication between the interns and the people of the Council. Everyone was friendly with us and they were always willing to clear our doubts and even encouraged us to ask doubts and always taught us everything from beginning to end.

The 10 interns were divided into three groups and every week, they were transferred from one section to another, which helped us to understand the working of Council fully. There were other departments too which didn’t have any relevance with Journalism hence insights of these departments were given us in the last 2 days by making us visit those departments. Also, each of us worked for a day in Levy section.

Remember: While writing your article for application, you need to use your intelligence.

Above all, the purpose of writing this article was to inform that one should apply for an internship with the Press Council of India because I got to learn a lot and I am sure you will also learn a lot.
