We Remain Hypocrites Even As We Face Mass Extinction Due To Climate Change

We live in this weird world where people come out in support of and protest for a politician’s release from jail who has looted crores out of our tax money. But, the same people don’t believe that climate change is true and requires our outrage.

We are the biggest hypocrites on this planet.
We, as the future of this beautiful earth, whose value we’re yet to realise, are so ignorant.
We think the political leaders are solely responsible for whatever is happening around the globe.

Yes, the ice caps are melting.
Yes, we are breathing toxic air and drinking toxic water.
Yes, the planet is filled with garbage that is nearly impossible to recycle now.
Yes, millions of species are at risk of extinction every day.
Yes, we are cutting down trees and don’t really care about oxygen so much as we do about constructing metro lines.
Also, yes! we have cast our votes and elected political leaders have been giving permission to cut down forests and don’t believe there exists something called ‘climate change’.

MUMBAI, INDIA – OCTOBER 2: Residence of Aarey colony and Aam Aadmi Party members protest against Maharashtra govt. for tree cutting to make Metro shed construction at Aarey Colony, on October 2, 2018 in Mumbai, India. The activists filed a petition to stop the indiscriminate premature felling of trees inside Aarey Colony till permissions have been obtained to construct metro car shed/metro station. The minute we realise that ‘we‘ includes even ‘you‘, it’ll burst the biggest bubble that we have all been living in.

A 16-year-old girl is facing criticism because she is not ready to give up on what is important now. How much more ignorant can we be, even as the most ‘dominant’ species capable of thinking?

Where do you even store so much hatred for others? That you’re actually criticising someone who is fighting for our better future. Are you even hearing yourself before speaking? Doesn’t it sound ridiculous that you think a 16-year-old wants fame or secretly works for some vested agency, which is why she started this?

As much as we want to support our beloved leaders whom we praise and worship, we should also understand that planet Earth is our only home. I don’t know why climate change has to be politicised in the first place. All the ‘wings‘ are breathing the same air, even if they don’t like each other’s ideologies.

We are so selfish and impatient about everything that we don’t see, those animals, birds, insects, and every other species entering the endangered list. We need them more than they will ever need us. They are balancing this ecosystem. Now that a little part of the world is concerned about our existence, we need to take action.

Can we stop cutting down trees?
Can we stop all industrial activities?
Can we stop traveling?
Can we stop extracting minerals and metals?
Can we stop consuming animals?
Can we stop talking about all this?
The answer is NO.

Everything is connected to the other. The problem is we don’t want to stop what we are doing, but also want to save the planet.

In conclusion, sometimes my mind tells me it’s too late to save ourselves from what we have already done. But also, sometimes it tells me there is still hope. I want to still believe in all the good that exists in this world. There are amazing people who are actually creating awareness campaigns all over the world. Even if we don’t want to contribute towards the only thing we should be fighting for or if it is against our beliefs, let’s save all the negative energy for something else in the future. If we are smart enough to find life on another planet, we are surely capable of fixing our own mess here. If not now, when? If not us, who?

PS: I wrote this article while sitting on a teak wood chair, and I look around my room to see my teak wood bed, bookshelf, and cupboards. What a wonderful way to start my day, by criticising those in power.
Ah! Hypocrites I tell you.
