‘Jai Shree Ram‘ – this phrase, the words of a morning prayer chant, have become popular among people as a slogan, particularly the youth of our country.
In my opinion, the chanting of this slogan has come to represent the true ideology of the people of India, the world’s largest democracy. It is India’s democratic power itself which, sometimes, keeps away the largest seat-winning party out of the race for the formation of a government, when instead, all other small parties join together and achieve the magic number.
But nowadays, the Indian youth is diverted. Is it that? The opinion of people would be different in different aspects of life. But the big question in front of us is, whether this dream was envisioned by the father of our nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi? I can bet that if he was alive today, he would have been ashamed of us.
India is a secular country. This secular country’s Parliament was changed into a “religious Parliament” during the oath-taking ceremony of Members of Parliament. How can one forget this?
The mob lynching of Tarzeb Ansari in Jharkhand and Akhlak Khan in Rajasthan were two incidents that shook the country. The limit was crossed the moment people involved in all these incidents were welcomed by the slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram‘ and were garlanded as if they had won a gold medal. Another mob lynching happened in Bulandshahr where one police inspector was hunted and the culprits got bail.
It narrows down to either of the two: either our judiciary is weak or the culprits are backed by political parties. The youth has the power to change everything. Here, our economy is in crises and there is no one to raise a voice against these evils. Indian political parties have always benefited from the youth but they never return the favour.
According to me, the current situation in the country doesn’t care for your secularism; all it cares about is whether you can chant ‘Jai Shree Ram‘ or not. Only then will you be able to be a part of this mainstream country. It’s almost like India is moving a step towards a religious nation, like Pakistan. The problem is not chanting slogans. It’s simply not acceptable to be asked to do things in the name of religion.
We need to work in an organised manner to resolve the problems in our country, to make it a developed one, from a developing one.
