Super 30, the latest Bollywood movie, has inspired many of us to indulge in social good, think selflessly and do random acts of kindness, and it inspired me to write this post, do my bit of social good through social media.
The movie has one plus thirty heroes- Mr. Anand Kumar, the teacher and 30 young boys and girls who equally work hard to change their lives. Alone Mr. Anand Kumar couldn’t have brought that change. He along with 30 young people changed the world.
In my post, I will not ask, “Do you believe in change?” “Is change possible?” Rather, I will dwell on the simple acts you can perform each day to bring change.
For Young Girls And Boys
5 Acts that will help bring positive change in your attitude.
- Do you keep the dishes in the basin after finishing your meals? If no, start from the day. If yes, then start washing them from today.
- Do your books lay scattered on the bed or study table? If yes, start keeping them back in place from today.
- Whenever, an occasion strikes, do you constantly complain that you have nothing to wear? If yes, start counting the number of dresses that lie in your cupboard.
- How many times have you told your mother that she is awesome and does a wonderful job? If you can’t count, start saying, so you can count.
- How many times do you feel grateful for the wonderful life God has given you – your beautiful family, great food, a comfortable place to live and countless outings? If no, start showing gratitude in your daily prayers.
For Ladies And Gentlemen
5 Acts that will help change your world for better.
- Do you believe that household work is only a woman’s domain? If yes, start to accept that men and women are equal and it is equally a man’s job. This change will help your young daughter as well, for she will enter a world far more competitive and ambitious than what you entered, and it will not be possible for her to perform all work single-handedly. Men and women must realise that to improve their lives and standard of living they must complement each other and share roles.
- If you are a stay-at-home mom, do you feel that you do not contribute to household income? If yes, begin to think this way. You do all the housework and save the money that would have been spent on hiring a gardener, cook, washerman, nanny and so on. In addition, you are helping children in their studies. There is no cost for a house that is always in order and children showing all the healthy signs.
- Do you feel guilty when you say “I am tired and need rest?” If yes, stop feeling for it is only human to get tired. On the contrary, keeping an hour to yourself will not only re-energise you but will also reduce your anxiety and stress levels. You need space to unwind, think and be yourself.
- Do you share your problems, everyday life challenges with your friends? If no, start talking and reaching out. The others in your social network often go through similar life challenges when it comes to bringing up children, school issues or family concerns. You can get a new perspective on your problem. Do not shy to say, “I need help.” Sometimes your best solutions lie in social interactions.
- Last but not least, do you believe in giving? When I say giving it can mean volunteering your time or skill, a donation to a charity or a simple act of kindness. Giving has dual benefits. It changes you and the beneficiary’s life. You must be wondering how it changes my life. Studies indicate that giving makes you happier and you experience greater life satisfaction.
This Sunday, rather splurging all on yourself and your family, start giving a little.
Have you encouraged any change in your home or community? I look forward to hearing from you!
