Kodungallur, Kerala: Plant Two Trees, Only Then Can You Build A House

In India, initiatives to deal with climate crisis and pollution have begun.

Let me tell you that a few weeks ago, news informed us that in Kodungallur, Kerala, no house registrations will be available without planting two trees in the premises of the house.

That is, to get the registration of the house, you have to put two trees like jack fruit or mango at home. Only after that can you begin the process of building your home.

It has been decided on behalf of the local body of Kodungallur municipality. It has made it mandatory for all houses of 1500 square feet to plant two trees for compliance certificates. The authority of the appointed local body will inspect and see if the trees are properly cared for or not. The house will be registered after seeing the increase in trees.

Just a month ago, the Philippines introduced a new education policy proposal. It is now mandatory for the student to plant ten trees to obtain their graduation degree. That is, if you do not plant ten trees, then you will not get the degree.

Kodungallur in Kerala is perhaps the first city in India to make such a decision. Here’s hoping more follow!
