Is The Youth Today Suffering From A Superman Complex?

Even though I have a great successful life on paper and a healthy body, I have the itch to do something bigger and meaningful in life, even if it means I need to give up on the good life. I want to bring about a new type of wellness revolution – one that helps other fellow millennials get that added edge and the factor required to climb up the corporate ladder and stand out.

Humans are a super smart breed of intellects and as great as our education system is, it has not prepped us in the art of enhancing ourselves to become more holistic professionals. Amongst millions of us, there is always an Indra Nooyi, Sundar Pichai or Satya Nadella, but don’t we deserve to have a ton more Indra’s, Sundar’s and Satya’s?

When I talk to fellow millennials, they all seem to suffer from an itch like, “I want to do something big;” “I want to write my own destiny;” “I don’t care about engineering, I want to go in the creative space”.

I believe such people suffer from a superman complex i.e an unhealthy sense of responsibility. Such a person may feel a constant need to “save” others. Why else would one be willing to give up their status quo? Our elders, parents and relatives, on the other hand, think differently. They believe that this itch to be different is nothing but plain idiocy and we should focus harder at work, or get a hobby to take our minds off of this type of nonsense. Does today’s youth have the passion to be different? Or do they succumb to the conventions of society?
