In India, elections are nothing less than a national festival. People enthusiastically participate in voting and wait keenly for the results. After seven weeks of voting, finally, the results got declared on May 23, 2019.

During these elections, people of India witnessed the fall and rise of many leaders. Here is a list of major takeaways from the Election 2019 :

1. Rahul Gandhi, the President and the Prime Ministerial candidate of the Indian national congress lost the battle of Amethi to Smriti Irani. It was definitely a huge set back for the Congress party.

2. The coalition politics of SP and BSP failed in Uttar Pradesh. All the caste equations of Mahagathbandahan(Grand coalition) ( Yadav + Dalit + Muslim) failed miserably, and BJP successfully retained its ground.

3. It was a clean sweep for BJP in major Hindi heartland states like Rajasthan, Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh, etc.

4. For the first time, BJP managed to score a double-digit in West Bengal. The vote share of BJP was 31.34% in 2014, and now it is a whopping 55.8%.

5. Left parties have completely lost their ground in states like West Bengal and Kerala where they had a significant presence earlier. In this election, Left collectively won 2 seats.

6. The Aam Aadmi Party has failed to impress voters this time and the BJP is leading on all seven seats in Delhi.

The present elections have raised questions on the credibility of leaders of the opposition parties. The opposition failed to set a narrative in the elections. There were many issues like unemployment, farmer distress, etc. which would have given them an upper hand over the BJP, but they miserably failed to assure voters of their capabilities. It’s time that the opposition parties did some serious introspection and designed a plan of action for the next five years.
