The Great Rape Culture Of India
Yes, you read it correctly. Rape is an undeniable crisis that has hit this world – which India too is a part.
It is something which all of us Indians are ashamed of too! Is it really though? Nope, I don’t so. There are many human beings who are okay with this culture. And to everybody’s surprise, people who are indifferent towards this crisis are complacent in putting the blame on women’s clothing, and this population is not just limited to rural or underdeveloped India.
An English-speaking sunglasses-wearing aunty from NCR too is one of those many thinkers who think girls wearing clothes flaunting their thighs should be raped. A video has been viral over the social media where this Aunty ji is seen buying yellow cushions in a store fleeing a group of girls whom she told that they should be raped on the grounds of their outfits. Although this part has not been recorded, but can be sensed upon hearing the conversation recorded in the video. The girls in a revolting manner, are seen demanding a sincere apology from the lady. While many other people have taken their stand in support of the girls in that mall and on social media as well.

The words spoken by the lady aren’t justifiable in any way. But we all wonder what made that aunty come and attack a group of girls hanging out in a mall out of nowhere.
We should appreciate the power of social media which polarizes attention towards the unheard voices of the common man. Instagram, one of the highly trending social media apps among the youth was used by Shivani Gupta (victim of aunty’s attack) to spread the information of these happenings in her post which was deleted by Instagram because it didn’t follow Instagram’s community guidelines. Meh!
Word of advice
- Let’s not torture that aunty. Instead we should stand together against this whole ideology. Aunty isn’t our enemy, such ideology is.
- Short clothes not necessarily represent women empowerment. But such such remarks definitely encourage the rapists.
- If you justify crime, you are a criminal too.

Until we are in India we will have to keep aside our cultural and religious values when there is a multicultural interaction. (Multicultural interaction must be the norm because of our Diversity).
