What better way to end the first week of the new year than watching a frivolous talk spewing misogyny, sexism and racism. This would be the biggest facepalm moment for people who are more concerned for cows of this country or those insisting people to say “Bharat mata ki jai.”
Bharat Mata would have died in dismay if she were to watch the young talent of the most viewed and cherished sports of this country, having such idealistic views for the gender that she herself identifies with.
Yes, we are talking about the obliviously stupid talk show headed by the flag bearer of nepotism, Mr. Karan Johar. This weekend he had invited two promising cricketers who represent India internationally, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya. It was too cringey to sit for even one episode. Before commenting anything on the show, let’s go through some of their enlightening intellectual conversations.
Karan Johar asked, “Why don’t you ask women their name in a club? What do you talk about, then?”
Hardik Pandya answered, “I like to watch and observe how they move. I’m little from the black side so I need to see how they move.”
This man later added that he is very much influenced by the West Indies and the attitude its people hold, he said that his whole demeanour is an exemplification of how a black man conducts himself. This statement extrapolates his lack of knowledge and his lethargic attitude towards being factually clear. He made a very racist comment here by portraying black people in a shoddy light.
Later, when Karan Johar was asking KL Rahul about an incident when his parents had confronted him for his sexual life, Pandya jumped right into it and said in the most nonchalant way, “With my family I am open about everything, I am like aaj kar ke aaya hai.”
What?? I need to see an ENT specialist because after this my ears are bleeding. It is good to know the openness and the acceptance of one’s sexual life in an Indian family but the nomenclature that this guy is using reflects his toxic mentality towards women.
To add to this nonsense, he decided to build a tumour in my ear and referred to a party where his family asked, “Achcha bata tera kis kis ke sath scene raha hai?” (Tell me how many people here have you had a ‘scene’ with?), to which he responded, “Yeh, yeh yeh. In sab ke saath kuch na kuch raha hai mera” (That one, this one, that one. I had some or the other form of relationship with each of them), to which his holier than thou family replied, “Waah, I am proud of you beta.”
This show had many more conversations of this nature, but it is really sad to see people having respectable positions in society and equal responsibility towards it, cascading toxic male jingoism. Hardik Pandya has been representing India in many tournaments, but he chose to mention Miami and the fanatical party they had! Such a spiritual image to leave with the audience.
Karan Johar recently said at a conclave, “Every woman, who has a voice, has to be respected, applauded for coming out, and it is essential to believe every given voice. You cannot say there’s no proof. That is a lame, masculine thing to say. When a woman comes out, she expresses her heart out, she is right and you believe her.”
Yet, he seemed to be giggling and passing a silent affirmation to all the venom spewed on his Koffee couch. This also throws light on Bollywood and their double standards, they don’t practise what they preach.
There are many takeaways from this shittier than shit conversation. One, education is a must for a man to evolve from his toxic masculine attitude, not just education but moral science about respecting every species on this planet is a must. Second, I really appreciate his family for inhibiting such high values and building a gentleman, I am really interested in having a conversation to know their views on the sexual life of their hypothetical daughter. If I find any alignment in both, kindly adopt me. On a different note however, I seriously urge BCCI to ensure the safety of all the women working around this team.
Dear Mr. Pandya, thank you for unravelling the mascots of the sacred game of this country. I pray you and your obnoxious approach to women get doomed like the dinosaurs did. This country and its women deserve better.
