It’s beyond disbelief and utter disappointment to come to terms with the fact that a country like India, which is considered to be a ‘democratic, secular and diverse’ has been debating for years centered over a plot of land in the city of Ayodhya. Typically known as the Ayodhya Dispute or the Babri Masjid and Ram Mandir case. This isn’t just an ordinary case, as it somehow has historical, socio-religious and even political connections.
Since India is a secular and diverse country, I think the case should neither be in favor of Babri Masjid, nor Ram Mandir. Because supporting any religion, rather religious views in particular, between the two would have the unwarranted taste of bias in it. Also, going by the current format of disharmony, supporting any of the two, could even lead to further discord, perhaps even riots, hopefully not, but you never know.
If we turn a blind eye towards religion, religious beliefs and religious places in this matter, there’s a lot more we can actually do. Building up a government school or a hospital in the same piece of land in Ayodhya can do wonders. The nation will neither face religious disharmony nor hurt any sentiments. In fact, building up a government school or government hospital would itself mean a place of worship without differences. Students and patients, irrespective of their caste or religion, would be blessed with the gift of education or good health for a better life.
It’s not really important to sort out religious differences in terms of religion every time. After all, all that we wish for is a good life. Sometimes good education and good health care are enough to give you one.
