MODERN EDUCATION SYSTEM OF INDIA AND CHALLENGES AHEAD

Education is very important in current times. With the competition in the job market getting stiffer, the significance of education further increases. It is one thing that unites people coming from diverse social and cultural background.
Thomas Macaulay introduced the present education system that we follow during the British era. The best part about the present education system is that unlike our traditional schooling system, this system opened school doors for everyone regardless of their religion, caste, gender, or class.

Our traditional educational system, the Vedic or Gurukul system, were biased in imparting education. Only upper caste Hindus like Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishyas were allowed to attend the schooling. In 1835, Macaulay introduced Minute on Education that aimed to promote European learning in India. While the system got rid of discriminatory practices of the earlier education regime, Macaulay was and is still criticised for the slow death of influence of Sanskrit and Arabic languages in education.

Recently, the education system in India is unable to address the unemployment in the country.

We need to focus on these points to end pro’s and con’s of this system

1. The Mentality of People
Yes, we are suffering by a ridiculous fixation with government jobs. They don’t focus on acquiring skills or tapping their talent. All they want is secure job that gives them stability and some reputation in the society.

2. Generation Gap Between Parents and Their children
It is non- ignorable thing which we are ignoring. We have very large generation gap with our parents. In many homes of India, ”Earner ( mainly males) are the rule makers of home”. What earner says, it will be the final thing. Either he’ll say you have to opt Science or Commerce after tenths you do. You have no option rather than it and the cycle continues.

Secondly, Our parents won’t understood the mindset and psychology of their child. Because, being ‘Sanskari’ and ‘Disciplined’ their child can achieve everything. But, they don’t understand that, their son is wanted to opt Arts for becoming Barrister. But they always wanted to make the child an IITian and then I.A.S officer.
When the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (C.C.E) got introduced just after I passed my class 8 and the S.A-1 held in class 9, during it’s PTM (Parents Teacher Meeting) One of my class fellow’s father asked to my class teacher that ”He didn’t understood this marking scheme”.
That’s the main thing. Whatever be the new system introduced, you must be concerned about it.
There is too lack of friendly behaviour of parents to their children. They are always wanting more marks from their child. Which is not good at all.

3. Literate v/s Educated
There is a vast difference between a literate and an educated person. A person who can able to read and write is called a literate. But, a man who is not only able to read and write but also able to harness it’s all skills and capable to stay in any type of adverse situation is educated one.

The government must need to change this criteria from literate to educated.
By increasing the literacy rate, we can’t continue to increase our productivity.
But, by increasing the education rate we can.
That’s the difference. We are not increasing the skills of our employees and workers. Because, they are not educated they are only literate.

4.Lack of Research and Development
We are not investing so much to improve our high productivity. We must invest in this basic thing, that is education. Nowadays, only those who have money can take education and rest of them can only become literate.
We made commercialization of the education system which is not good thing. And, it is increasing day by day just due to less interest of government for investing in education. So, a huge percentage of GDP is needed to invest in our education related to Research and Development.
And then, we can able to compete with the developed nations oif the world.
