India has the largest youth population in the world. Youth have their set of preferences regarding what they watch on television or online. However, in my opinion, shows like Bigg Boss are a scam in the garb of a reality show. The show is completely scripted where every season around 10 to 12 participants are locked in a common house for three months. These participants are mostly controversial celebrities or the ones who hope to revive their declining career through this show.
Bigg Boss is infamous for fights among the inmates. These fights begin when they are assigned tasks. The show encourages such conflicts which could even turn into a physical fight. While the contestants are encouraged to initiate abusive fights to shoot up show’s TRP, the Bigg Boss and the host Salman Khan cover-up by thrashing the contestants for fighting. Hence, creating an illusion that the show doesn’t support fights and conflicts.
Many people protest against the show, but the contestants continue to behave irresponsibly in the Bigg Boss house.
Bigg Boss gave the limelight to personalities like KRK, Swami Om, Dolly Bindra, among many other controversial celebrities. Media too cover the developments of the show extensively as if it’s national news.
The channel expects us to waste our time watching this show where people will do anything for the TRP. The only agenda Bigg Boss has is to show fights in the show because they assume that people like that. The contestants are hoping to revive their career, so even they agree to this agenda.
Sadly, people have labelled and stereotyped young population in the country. They believe that anything that contains fights, sex, and drugs will attract the young crowd. Instead of stereotyping and feeding such content to youth, it’d be great if we focus on channelising youth’s energy. There is no creativity in such shows. There are many good series on Netflix and on TV which are underrated.
Bigg Boss winners hardly retain the limelight and fame they get from the show. Bigg Boss winners like Juhi Parmar, Shewta Tiwari, and Gautam Gulati are hardly seen in the news these days. In my opinion, the youth should choose quality content over such shows, and channelize their energy towards the development of the country.
