Dear Rahul Gandhi, I Am The Youth Of India, And I See You As My Leader

The social media is still bursting with more trolls on the epic target we hold in Rahul Gandhi. That’s why I proceeded to watch the Monsoon Session of the Parliament because this time, the trollers were on with their bullying, but nothing seemed funny. I precisely wanted to know why Rahul Gandhi offended the procedural grounds and went ahead to hug the Prime Minister and what I witnessed in return took me by shock.

As a young citizen of India, I expect the government to be truthful in every aspect when they serve with us, not because it’s important but because I expect that accountability and transparency should be the key elements of politics in my country. I expect the government to come forward and take responsibility for the mishaps they caused and not hide it under fake figures and promises which they continue to make and break. I know, what I expect is next to impossible but what I don’t expect is the picture which appeared right in front of me. The eye-opening speech by the President of the Indian National Congress.

Rahul Gandhi might seem to be pointing out the flaws of the presiding government over no possible proof but as an aware citizen I was well-versed about what he spoke and the reasons why India has been lagging behind constantly on the grounds of ‘Jumla Strike’.

The piled up promises by the Prime Minister were torn apart by this opposing member in a way that the Prime Minister’s Cabinet couldn’t predict. They didn’t hold back and lashed out immediately. When the youth of the country was promised employment, they were hit with a demonetisation drive in return. Not only were people not employed, but small businesses and farmers incurred a lot of losses because of the lack of cash exchange during the time.

The country continued to suffer, while the big names continued to flourish, and yet, I chose not to be blind, and neither was the opposition. As the notion of GST came into action, the government decided to create havoc in the pockets of small traders, the prices of the petrol continued to rise day by day. The countries which charge GST also offer facilities to the people which never came as complementary with our Prime Minister’s version of GST. The businessmen continued to build skyscrapers as farmers continued to commit suicides on being unable to pay off their debt. And yet, the PM had nothing to say. The PM has nothing to say about the horrific atrocities committed on women, children and people from marginalised communities. Modi claims to be the chowkidar of our country while his acts on the Rafale deal suggest otherwise.

On this instance, I agree with every word the President of Congress had to say. I agree with the fearlessness with which he challenged the ruling government and put forth his opinions and points no matter how inappropriately he might have been talked back to. He truly defined what a Hindu is, what nationalism is and what our country stands for. In one simple hug, he expressed how the Congress will always stand for unity in diversity. After this incident, I see him as a newborn leader.

I just have one message for Mr Rahul Gandhi, in the spirit of his speech on Friday – “I am the youth of India, and I see you as my leader. I stand by you, and I’m not afraid.”
