We, the people of the 21st century, consider ourselves as the best among all the human race just because of the innovations we have made in the last two to three centuries. In one word, this whole innovation can be described as technology on which the human habits, interactions and ways of life rely the most. The best part of this technology is the connectivity that leads to globalisation. But this same technology interrupts human interaction with nature, and communication with each other.
This connectivity leads us to social media where every individual is a participating member of a global society, where you receive messages (data, thoughts or ideas) and their acceptance is described by the number of likes and types of comments. Social media has several means and themes, so whatever message you received came from a perspective and with an agenda that influences your decision-making processes and choices. This data is put out by people on social media (share or follow) profiles. We consider them as their conscious consent, but is it true – especially where every filter (medium) adds or subtracts something from it?
McLuhan’s theory of “Medium is the Message” explains how a medium affects the message. For example, chatting on WhatsApp has a particular meaning, whereas the same is seen in a different light when you are doing it on Tinder.
In this immoderate use of data, and the subsequent outrage, how would you take care of your consciousness which is a pole star to your subjectivity? Art is the only way to come out of it. As our creativity has crumbled, the true human nature falls with subjectivity – the more we act in a set manner the less human we become.
So, just grab any form of art or innovate on your own. Just use it to express, expose, reveal and confess your subjectivity to your consciousness. Make mistakes because that is the context of your action and the substance of your very subjectivity – so don’t lose it. The objective world will not let you do that but art has a free space for you. So, just go for it and enter a world of zero bondage.
