The law may have officially given the transgender population recognition as the ‘third gender’, but in reality, the community still faces a lot of discrimination and harassment in the country on an everyday basis.
The advertisement based on the true story of Gauri Sawant, who adopted an orphaned Gayatri after her birth mother succumbed to HIV-AIDS, not only manages to capture the universality of a mother-daughter relationship but also nudges us to think a bit more about how society treats the transgender community.
In just a little over three minutes, the video, in fact, manages to touch two controversial topics – adoption and transgender people, raising important questions on both.
