Hearing About Porn
We started discussing sex during high school. It was our aged biology professor who lectured us on reproduction. He supplemented us with tiny bits of sex education then. So, I never felt the need to watch porn to learn about sex.
Then one day, a classmate asked our chemistry teacher about pornography in the classroom just to embarrass him. The teacher didn’t punish him but instead explained clearly what it was. Yet, my friends and I were always curious to watch it.
First Time, First Hand
A few months later, I came across a thumbnail for a porn movie online. I instantly clicked and started watching it with rapt attention. I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen till the end. I was surprised. I had expected the action to be soft and gentle but it was wild and hardcore.
Feminism was discussed regularly in high school. There were discussions around porn and the representation of women in pornography. For a few months after this, I just could not make up my mind to watch another porn video. But later, I was re-introduced to another genre that was gentler. I slowly started getting used to it.
Just Another Form Of Entertainment
Despite having a greater access to porn since I joined college, it remained a hush-hush topic for most people. I was lucky to participate in debates regarding porn. During such occasions, I learnt that porn movies were, like most movies, directed by professional directors and enacted by professional actors.
[envoke_twitter_link]There is no reason for porn to influence our behaviours or expectations[/envoke_twitter_link]. [envoke_twitter_link]In all these years, I have realised that porn is just another form of entertainment[/envoke_twitter_link]. I would always consider safe sex and use contraception irrespective of what’s shown in a porn movie.
Even with the availability of feminist and women-friendly porn, most of what is shown online is not educational. All we can hope for is healthy entertainment and not be judged for watching it!
