In Photos: Calicut Medical College Students Demand Justice For Missing JNU Student

By Thesil Ahmed:

Najeeb Ahmad, a student from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been missing since the morning of October 15. He had a scuffle with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at a hostel in JNU on the night of October 14. He was allegedly beaten up by members of the ABVP. The allegations have been denied by the ABVP. An FIR had been lodged a couple of days after hs disappearance. But the police in the capital city of the country have unfortunately been unable to locate him even though it has been more than half a month since he went missing. The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union has been at the forefront of the protests. Yet, the movement hasn’t found as much support as Kanhaiya Kumar did after he was arrested for sedition in the month of February.

Yet, a beautiful and inspiring gesture of solidarity has emerged from a place which is around 2,500 kilometres from Delhi. The Students Federation of India unit in Calicut Medical College conducted a protest march in which many students participated. The photos of the march were uploaded on November 1. Students with placards and slogans marched through the campus to show their solidarity for Najeeb. Cards with #iamnajeeb written on them were pinned on the shirts of the students. It’s important to note here that Najeeb is a member of the All India Students Association.
