For all the women out there, bra shopping is a ‘special’ experience. It’s a day in your life which you gird your loins for (pun totally intended) and sally forth to have your breasts prodded and poked at by people and have your bra size declared to you. Both a spiritual and absurdly unfulfilling experience.
Why are we talking about breasts? Well, for one, we simply don’t talk enough about them. [envoke_twitter_link]Women are brought up to be embarrassed about their breasts to the point that we ignore them[/envoke_twitter_link]. Some of us even try to make them as unobtrusive as possible. Which also means that we don’t go for regular health checks and miss out on any signs of danger – such as a lump in the breast. And in case you think this isn’t something to be worried about, it is: breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women and, embroiled in all our shame and embarrassment, we simply don’t take note of it.
This is precisely what stand-up comedian Aditi Mittal proceeds to do. More than refreshing to hear her talk so openly about breasts, it’s necessary. They’re a part of our body and more importantly, vital indicators for our health. So ladies, touch yourselves. Check for a lump in your breasts. Actually, you don’t have to take my word for it. Just listen to her.
