By Anugraha Hadke:
Good thrillers in Indian cinema are hard to come by. I think the last Hindi thriller that I truly liked was ‘Kahaani’, and that released four years ago.
So it is pretty understandable that the trailer of ‘Phobia’ has got me excited, and here are some reasons why:
1. The protagonist of the film, played by Radhika Apte, suffers from agoraphobia – a type of anxiety disorder in which you “fear and avoid places or situations that might cause you to panic, make you feel trapped, helpless or embarrassed”. Apart from the fact that that is something many of us can identify with to some extent (I surely can), this is one of those rare times when it seems like a mental health issue has been represented with some sense. It looks like a realistic depiction of the impact that anxiety can have on an individual. Here’s hoping it lives up to it!
2. By now, very few would doubt Radhika Apte’s acting abilities. Therefore, it is natural that a lot of expectations would be raised simply because she’s doing a film.
3. The trailer is really well made. I found it sharp, and super tense.
So watch, and let us know what you think of it in the comments below!
