Britain Celebrates Baby Girl, But In India…

maitri female foeticide

While the British Royal family and the entire country recently celebrated the birth of its princess, HRH Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, with people welcoming her into this world on ground and on social media, in another part of the world, the birth of a girl child remains a stigma. In India, as per the Census, 2011 the child sex ratio (0-6 years) has shown a decline from 927 females per thousand males in 2001 to 914 females per thousand males in 2011. The horror of female foeticide in India is such that there aren’t even any actual numbers to state how deep the problem is as the crime is carried on clandestinely, and illegally.
