Knowing what happens in the political circles before elections arrive is crucial to understand the political chess being played out. Starting today, we will sum up the major happenings related to elections of the past day for you.

12th March, 2014

1. AIADMK leading, DMK recovering in Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa or Amma as she is called is leaving no stone unturned to give the much needed lead to her party in the state which is not a stronghold of any major party like BJP or Congress. AIADMK has already announced the list of candidates on March 3rd and now they are looking to maximize gains by forging alliance with BJP and severing ties with the Left front which was their backbone until then. The game is heating up and it will be interesting to see DMK’s reaction to this aggression.

2. Rebel RJD leader joins BJP, sings praise for Modi: Rebel leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Ram Kripal Yadav has left Lalu Prasad Yadav’s party to join BJP and he didn’t shy away from hitting Lalu with his words and praising the PM candidate Modi at the same time. “The RJD has moved away from its core values. Mr. Prasad gave precedence to his family over party and cadres. I was in a dilemma on what to do for the last few days and then decided to quit the party and join the BJP for the sake of promoting social justice,” he said.

3. AAP going to field candidate against A.Raja: The Aam Aadmi Party looks in no mood to waste its precious resources by fielding candidates on all constituencies and has carefully selected to put candidates against those with charges of corruption or criminal background. The latest targets are A.Raja and Dayanidhi Maran of DMK as Tamil Nadu goes to polls on April 24th.

4. Narendra Modi calls student and gives them courage to face exams: When it comes to innovative campaigns, NaMo can be trusted like no other. Latest is his calls to the students of class X and XII in Gujarat who started receiving calls with a prerecorded message from the Prime Minster candidate himself, which said “Exams are natural in the life and ‘our’ hard work will give good results. My good wishes are with you that you will pass with flying colours in class X and XII and secure excellent rank. You, your teachers and your parents have done labour and it will give you a great result. Wishes again,”

5. AAP announces candidates in Goa: Aam Aadmi Party has cleared its stand on the private mining in the state by condemning illegal private sector mining and demanded action on the players abusing resources. The party is fielding Dr. Dattaram Desai to contest the north Goa seat, while Ms. Swati Kerkar has been nominated from south Goa. Mr. Nilkant Gawas, who is the president of All Goa Truck-Owners’ Association has backed their stance.
