Anjali Chandrashekar’s poster on disaster management – on earthquakes and how to reduce their occurrences –was noticed by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, Japan; because of the uniqueness and the message her work displayed. 4000 copies of her poster were distributed — Anjali was all of all 12-years-old back then.
Anjali’s work has been bought by UNEP, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNISDR, WWF, FAO, among other organizations; and she still hasn’t finished her 2nd year at university.
Anjali was always an activist and a visual artist. At 10, she was teaching underprivileged children at the Integrated Multipurpose Recreation and Hobby Centre (IMRHC) in Bangalore; she started painting even earlier- at the age of 4. Anjali creates Art to raise funds for humanitarian purposes and raise awareness about health, humanitarian and environmental causes. In 2008, her poster on diabetes raised $ 5000 for the International Diabetes Federation, which was used to buy insulin for underprivileged kids. She uses her work to benefit underprivileged kids, primarily. In fact she uses her art to raise funds for causes like diabetes, dialysis, rehabilitation of underprivileged kids, child abuse, cerebral palsy, etc.
Anjali is a British Council Global Changemaker, and represented the Global Changemaker programme at World Economic Forum, Davos 2011 (Youngest and one of five representatives selected from a pool of over 1500 applicants). She is a Paragon fellow 2010 and received the National Youth Award by Government of India, in 2007 for outstanding voluntary work rendered in the field of national development and social service.
