Apple Inc. has always been known for their unique way of coming up with a new gadget in the market. Introduction of a new gadget by Steve Jobs is always preceded by some rumors that always excel in creating hype in the market. With the recent launch of iPad 2, the rumors of the next generation of smartphone, i.e iPhone 5, have already started making news.
With iPhone 4 antennae debacle, iPhone 5 is expected to revolutionise the Smartphone arena. Recently iPad 2 was seen to come up with the dual core A5 processor. According to Engadget, the iPhone 5 will be a complete rethink from a design point of things and will be running with Apple’s A5 processor chip. It is also expected to feature a Qualcomm chipset that covers three different networks in one, CDMA, GSM and UMTS.
Recently, there was a big leak from China regarding the looks of iPhone 5. According to these leaks, Apple is embracing big-screen thinking to match up to the increasing number of Android devices that have screens over 3.5 inches across diagonally. The screen on the iPhone 5 is expected to be close to 4 inches in size. It also includes information about Antennagate. It is expected to evolve the antenna design for the iPhone 5 to ensure there’s less signal attenuation when users hold the phone. It’s possible that Apple could replace the sheer glass rear face with a metal one to make the device slightly thinner, lighter, and potentially cheaper.

Initially, there was a speculation that iPhone 5 would feature NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, turning it into a kind of credit/debit card. However, according to some reports it was concluded that this feature would not be featured in this version of iPhone. But now again, a new report from Forbes says that the next generation Apple Smartphone will have NFC for things like mobile payments and syncing.
One of the rumors also states that Apple has been working on 3 different prototypes for the iPhone 5. One of these is said to include a sliding keyboard. But Apple, being advocates of touch, the chances for this sliding prototype is less. But if this rumor comes out to be true, it will be really interesting to see iPhone with a completely new definition.
The other features that have been talked about in the rumors are face recognition security, Video chat on 4G network, HD Audio, longer battery life, built in GPS and a better camera. Since the iPhone 3G was followed by the 3GS it’s possible the new iPhone won’t be a total refresh and we’ll see an iPhone 4S (or iPhone 4GS) before an iPhone 5.
Initially it was said that iPhone 5 will be out in the market latest by July, 2011. But recently, FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger said, “For the iPhone 5, we continue to hear that a July launch is unlikely.” Instead of the summer launch in the July, the device won’t be released until September.
